Basic Life Support Services

Basic Life Support Services (BLS) are provided to the members of the community NDP EMS serves at the request of local EMS, Fire, and Police Agencies. NDP EMS is dispatched through Dutchess County’s 911 Center. We work as partners with the local rescue services assisting them when necessary and providing direct Basic Life Support in the event they are unavailable.

Basic Life Support is the assessment and treatment of ill or injured persons by an Emergency Medical Technician. Emergency Medical Technicians are trained to recognize, evaluate and treat immediate life threats at a basic level while awaiting the arrival of a Paramedic to provide Advanced Life Support Services. They also evaluate, treat, and transport patients suffering from emergencies that are not life threatening such as sprains, strains, fractures, minor bleeding, general illness and much more.

All Emergency Medical Technicians at NDP EMS provide compassionate, high quality care, serving not only as care providers but as advocates and resources.

Advanced Life Support Services

Advanced Life Support (ALS) Services are provided to the same communities at the request of the same agencies as Basic Life Support Providers and are dispatched to emergencies through Dutchess County’s 911 Center. Advanced Life Support Services are provided by NDP EMS’ Paramedics who ensure continuity of basic care while providing more advanced evaluation and treatment.

Advanced Life Support Providers (Paramedics) utilize a systematic approach and additional assessment equipment such as cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, and glucometers to evaluate the patient. Utilizing equipment available to them and knowledge gained from advanced training they are able to develop differential diagnoses, determine the most likely cause of the emergency, and begin treating the patient accordingly prior to arrival at the Emergency Department.

Paramedics also provide advanced care in critical life threatening situations. Paramedics are able to provide a wide variety of interventions including cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, medication administration, advanced airway management, and much more.

NDP EMS is happy to provide Advanced Life Support Level ambulances to provide dedicated coverage for special events such as polo matches, the Aerodrome shows, the Dutchess County Fair, Parades, or any gathering where you feel Emergency Medical Services may be necessary.
